  • Absolutely thrilled to see this article, Georgina that is fantastic, can’t wait to show my cousin Alec this. Georgina also mentioned in another post that her father bought the shop from Mr Nuth, my granddad, William Henry Nuth, (also known as Pop). Thrilled to see a picture.
Thank you Georgina for remembering my grandad had the shop. Kind Regards. Jacqueline Nuth.

  • You are quite right Donald (Joy).  The extension was fruit and veg.  The middle of the shop was provisions and the remainder was tobacco and confectionary.

  • Exactly where on St Nicholas Lane was this store located? During which years? It escapes my memory.

  • In the fifties, there were four properties in St Nicholas Lane between Leinster Road and Cambridge Road.  St Nicholas Stores was one of them.

  • Exactly as I remember it, photos sharpen the memories image. Would I be correct in saying, the extension on the right, as you face the building, was where the fruit and veg were kept? Many a threepenny bit or a tanner spent in there.
