The Weather Cock Is Back.

After some 40 odd years, St Nicholas Church has its weather cock back. Sometime during tower renovation back in the 1970’s the weathcock went missing.

The current repair work to the tower and steps etc., gave the church authorities the opportunity to errect a new weather cock.

  • Really great to see a weather cock back in it’s rightfull place, adorning the top of the spire of this beautiful historic church, where so many Laindon couples were wed, including myself and my late brother.

The new tower cladding looks great, don’t know what the material is made of, but I hope it deters those pesky wood peckers that made holes in it, though ideal nesting places for swifts. The new stairs look a picture, a great job!

  • It’s really lovely to see such a fine piece of Laindon history and heritage being looked after so well. Great to see a weather vane back on top where it should have always been and WOW! just look at those new steps. I hope that these last for a long period of time just as the previous ones did. Naturalised snowdrops and crocus would look good and finish off the well tended grounds. Overall this church and its grounds look better now than at any time that I recall.
