Paul Egholm
The Pinkees 1980s Pop Group.
I wonder how many of you remember the top 10 recording group The Pinkees. They had a record which reached number 8 in the U.K. singles charts and appeared on BBC’s Top of the Pops among other programmes in 1982/3. The Group’s lead singer was a Laindon lad called Paul Egholm. He went on to front other bands and more recently had a workshop at Barleylands, where he handmade guitars and lutes for many musicians. Sadly Paul passed away on the 28th April, he was 68. Paul never lost his love of music and was in his element when playing and singing to an audience. Paul attended all three of the Laindon School Reunions for his year group of the 60s and entertained his peers with a medley of 60s hits in September 2016. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends. He leaves a daughter Sarah and 2 sisters, Sharon and Diana. His funeral will take place at Herongate Wood burial ground, Brentwood
on Thursday 25 May at 11am, a music man to the end.

The Pinkees made a big impact on me in the early 80s, so much so that it made me pick up a guitar and learn to play. Thank you Paul Egholm for the inspiration.
Just read about Paul’s death which has come a quite a shock to me. I bumped into him once in Stratford (old) shopping centre, around 1991 I would guess, and was rambling on with him about it being a real pity the Pinkees Danger Games album never got released on CD. We had a really lovely 3-4 minute chat and a hearty handshake at the end. Love to the family and let’s raise a glass to him and the other band members and hope sometime the album will be digitally released as some great tracks will be lost forever, otherwise !!

Thanks everyone who remembers our dad for your lovely messages, I read about 3 or 4 and had to cry. Paul was an example for lots of people and myself and it makes me so happy to know that he hasn’t been forgotten. I had the pleasure of meeting and knowing Paul for many years, from his days as a printer/compositor through to sitting drinking tea, admiring his work and discussing the importance of diminished chords/7 string guitars/Roger McGuinn et al. A real gentle man and a gentleman, will be missed by all who knew and loved him. A talented guy, modest and always helpful. All you need is love.
Sorry to hear of the passing of my dear friend Paul Egholm.
Me and my good friend Roy Wilson used to travel around with Paul, Don and Bob in a small Morris van to gigs. If I remember rightly,? Doctor Long’s son was the drummer in the band.
We also used to meet Paul and his daughter Sarah at the Juke Joint in Basildon in later years.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Paul. I knew Paul when he started out with a band called 4 In A Bar, I watched him play and recalled how much he reminded me of a young Paul McCartney. He would get quite a kick out of that. He will be sadly missed.
A sad day to hear of the passing of Paul Egholm. I knew Paul at school, and also met up with him at the school reunions. A lovely gentle person. I’m sure the people who also knew him would agree. RIP Paul, and I’m sure you will be entertaining everyone.
Sad news indeed. Paul was always full of energy for music when at school. We had some good times. Rest in peace Paul.
So sad to hear this. Paul lived near me in Berry Lane and I still have a record by the Pinkees. He played live for me at my 40th birthday. I will try to go to the funeral to pay my respects.
So sorry to hear of the passing of Paul Egholm. Paul was in my class at Laindon High Road School. We played together along with Donald Woodley and Bob Linard in a school band. Great days indeed.
