Annual Photographic Display 21st March 2015

Manor Mission 11 am - 2:30 pm.

What better way to spend a few hours on a grey, drizzly Saturday than to browse Ken Porter’s wonderful display of old photographs in the Manor Mission.  Not to mention the congenial chatter and reminiscences shared by the dozens of people who gathered in the hall, with refreshments on offer as an added bonus.

Doors opened at 11 am and visitors immediately began to stream in.  Peter Sloper arrived in his beautiful classic Hillman Minx which he parked outside for all to admire.  The hall was soon filled with a huge crowd.

It was good to see John Bathurst who contributes so many interesting articles and comments on the website.  His knowledge and memory of Laindon is extensive and very much appreciated.

Several reunions took place, previous neighbours and school friends were delighted to meet and catch up with each other after many years.  Cousins, Terry and Peter Venner, Alan Taylor and Valerie Theobald (now Pini) whose mothers Mabel, Marjorie and Rose Saltmarsh had once lived at No. 6 Railway Cottages.

Plenty of local books, calendars, postcards and maps were for sale and many were eagerly snapped up.  The tea/coffee and cake was most welcome, some visitors taking a few extra slices home with them.

As always, the 3½ hours seemed to fly past far too quickly and at 2:30 the Manor Mission doors closed after what had been another very successful and enjoyable event.
