Laindon Chamber of Commerce Meeting.

This photograph supplied by Peter Hayden is thought to be of The Laindon Chamber of Commerce at the Fortune of War, sometime between 1948 and 1950.

Peter’s parents, Sydney and Dorothy are standing up in the back row. (S. Hayden & Son and D. Kent & Co. Laindon Builders, High Road, Laindon).  The couple in the same row on the extreme right are Charlie and Alice Stoneham who owned the shop in Berry Lane.  Sitting infront of them, appears to be Maud and Allan Henbest.

The man sitting in the middle facing the camera in front of Peter’s father, is Sid Clifford who owned a green grocers shop in the High Road, Laindon and the man sitting at the table on the right facing the camera is George Ross, the person who wrote the book about ‘Laindon’ called ‘The Brink of Despair’.
