Water tower

Kirkham Road

1939 map of area
Ordinance Survey Office

Can anyone give any information on the history of the water tower at the end of Kirkham Road? When was it built, who designed it etc? Or point me in the right direction to get more info.

Editor: This is just outside our boundary, but I have found that it is indicated on the 1939 Ordinance Survey map for the area (relevant section below). I have been trying for some time to get historical information from the local water company without success, but will try again.

  • Dear Carole,

I have been unable to find any thing regarding this water tower, however I discovered a mention of the installation Boreholes and Pumping station at Dunton in “Water and Water Engineering” during 1939.

I would be interested in any response from eswater.

  • Gloria, thank you so much for your input, so encouraging to see other enthusiastic historians in the area. I did contact eswater a month or so ago but am still waiting for a response. I shall try again through the links you suggested.
