The Cyster family are recorded living in 5 Denbigh Terrace as far back as 1911 (the Census). Charles Peter Cyster and his wife Olive (née Brooker) were born in Buckinghamshire and married in 1896.
According to the dates and place of birth of their oldest two children, Charles Thomas (born Middx Sept 1897 – baptised Dec 1897 – father described as ‘Coachman’) and Bertie (born Langdon Hills 1901), Charles and Olive moved to Laindon sometime between 1898 and 1901. (Denbigh Terrace doesn’t appear on the 1898 map).
The 1901 Census shows them living at Manor Cottage Laindon. At that time, his profession was shown as ‘jobbing gardener’. This is a good indication that Denbigh Terrace was built sometime between 1901 and 1911. Their other children were Olive, Alfred, Winifred and Ronald all of whom were born in Laindon.
The 1929 Kelly’s Trade Director lists Charles Peter Cyster of Laindon under ‘Estate Agents’. Son Alfred Cyster ran the Greengrocer business.
Charles died in 1945 and his wife Olive died in 1951.
