Don Nelson's Memories of Laindon

I lived in Laindon as a boy, I am now 87. I used to go rabbiting, mushrooming, logging & picking holly & mistletoe when the seasons were right and sell door to door. I also loved the Bluebell woods. My favourite teacher in Markhams Chase School was Mrs Macmillan, I remember crying with her when she learnt that her son was killed during the war. Does anyone know what happened to Chris Larkin who used to own Larkin’s Tyre Service ?  He used to be a good pal of mine. I loved Laindon. Regards Don.

  • Hi Don, did you used to live in Tyler Avenue? I think my sister Val was friends with your sister Jean back in the day. I know if it’s the right Don, you used to get my mum the odd rabbit. We lived in the bungalow opposite Byron’s shop. Mum and dad were Bill and Edie Sarfas, and my brother Dave still lives in Laindon. Hope you are keeping well.

  • Hi Don
Chris Larkin is still involved in Larkin’s Tyre Service. Can you add any more of your memories of Laindon. Just spent the last couple of weeks walking around the bluebell woods of Langdon Hills.
