Happy Memories Flooding Back

Lots of happy memories come flooding back. Miss Spencer was my music teacher until she was recruited into the Army.  When I was 12 my mother found another teacher, Mrs Webb of Archer Road.   She took me through all my London College Music exams.  Results were always printed in the local paper.

Greens Stores. My brother-in-law worked on the butter counter (before it was made into packets), he then went on to training Methodist Church. Regarding the Laindon football, I spent many hours with my father watching games and met up with my friend Dorothy Hymas whose mother worked at Laindon Hotel.  Was she a relative of Leslie and Christine Hymas?

  • I remember very well shopping in Greens for my mother. It was quite daunting being lower than the counter, but you just handed over a list and waited. I watched as the lady, list in one hand, moved round the shop, picking up articles from the list. The cost was written along side the items and the change was then wrapped in the list and she watched as I carefully put it deep in my pocket.
