A Laindon High Road School reunion is to take place on Saturday 17th September 2016, 7:30 – 11:30 pm. The venue to be confirmed. As there will be a limited number of places (around 300), tickets will be for past pupils only and cannot unfortunately be extended to partners.

Thanks to all concerned on making the School reunion night such a great success. I met up with Ellen Burr and Jessie Hernandez, Ellen I had seen last year at one of the Laindon reunions, but Jessie I hadn’t seen since leaving school in 1960 !!!! It was lovely to chat and It seemed that we’d never been apart. My brother Dave Sarfas also enjoyed the night although officially he wasn’t at the school in the years which were indicated on the invitation, to me he always seems to be what made Laindon “tick”, with him working for Parkinsons the number of years that he did. Many thanks to Paul Gibson and the 3 ladies who assisted him in the task of putting this reunion together and making such a success of it. I was thrilled to attend and delighted with the number of people that I met there. Some schoolmates that I had not seen since leaving school in 1962, some who were good friends, others who I only recognised facially but didn’t actually know. It was particularly nice to find a few who back then refused to acknowledge me but now are not too proud to admit that they know me. (I was an obnoxious little #****** then). What a brilliant way to spend an evening. I just wish it could be done more often and that many others could attend. Thanks to all, it was great to see you.
Looking forward to meeting many again tonight. I sure have some photos as well.
The organiser, Paul Gibson has today announced the venue for the reunion on 17th September:-
Hi all, We are finally just one week away from the reunion so I am sending this email with the details you will need.
ENTRY: Doors will be opening at 7.15 pm. To cover the costs of the event (the main one of which is the hall hire charge) we will be asking for a donation at the door of a minimum of £3 please.
When you enter please give your name and you will be given a name tag. Please be patient on entering as we have over 140 people to book in and it may take some time, but we will get you through as soon as we possibly can.
VENUE: The reunion will be taking place at LAINDON COMMUNITY CENTRE in the MAIN SPORTS HALL – there will be some signs from the reception area showing you the way.
Full address is: Laindon Community Centre, Aston Road, Laindon SS15 6NX.
There are full bar facilities, there is disabled access and plenty of free car parking. It is a short walk from Laindon Station (approx 5 mins).
Please do not bring your own alcohol. There will be some nibbles on the table and there is plenty of seating.
We have to vacate the hall by 11 pm. Please help us to keep it tidy so we can vacate the hall on time.
PHOTOS: It has been suggested that if possible you bring a photo of yourself from school – this will help others recognise you after 50 years!
Also, on the night we encourage you to take LOTS of photos as there has been interest from the Evening Echo (who have said they will come along on the night). If you are happy for your photos to (possibly) be used in the Echo, then please send them to us here register@laindonhighroadschool.co.uk and we will collate them and send them on. We would also really love to use them for the website which we hope to update after the event so that those who could not make the reunion can look through the photos and any comments that are made.

Hi Norman. Remember me, your old neighbour from Alexandra Road? The very muddy walk home in the winter. The Top Field and the old cars – the enormous bonfire we had on Guy Fawkes Night? The time you saved our two goats from being attacked by two large dogs that ran into our garden. I’m pleased to see you have found the Laindon Archive’s website and hope you enjoy reading all the stories. I would love to attend this reunion as I’m a Laindon boy, born in Elizabeth Drive many moons ago. Went to school at Markhams Chase, then Langdon Hills, and then the High Road School. But time and work commitments will make it a bit hard, also I live the other side of the world have done so now for the last 50yrs. Thank you. Jeff Footer.
