Stan Harvey

Sadly, I received an e mail from his daughter, Jean Harvey, that her father Stan Harvey had passed away on February 7th 2018. The funeral will be held on March 13th at Risby Crematorium in Bury St Edmunds.

Stan has been mentioned numerous times in these archives. He attended LHR school in the late 1940’s and lived in Essex Road, up the hill from Curtis shoe store. Initially he worked in the city but then became a successful brick layer owning his own company.

Stan played a brief but all too important part in my life. We were friends in the late forties and early fifties. Stan worked at Lamport & Holt Blue Funnel Line in the city. We traveled up to Fenchurch Street on the same train. I worked at a custom house broker, found it deadly dull, and was looking for a change. Stan had secured his job through an employment agency located on the corner of Cheapside and Wood Street run by two little old ladies. He suggested I try them. I did. They sent me for an interview to “an old established tea company.” I was hired by Joseph Tetley and Co Ltd and spent my entire working career with them. All thanks to Stan Harvey.

Rest in peace Stan, old friend.
