The aunt and uncle of singer Sandie Shaw lived in Salisbury Avenue, Langdon Hills. In 1965 she was invited to attend their Silver Wedding Anniversary party in the WI Hall in Samuel Road, Langdon Hills. But the title of her second release in 1964 “Girl Don’t Come” became a reality, when at the last minute, she was unable to attend.
I found the story in the 12th May 1965 edition of the Basildon Recorder:-
“Sandie Shaw, the shoeless ‘pop’ star who rocketed to fame with her hit ‘Always Someone There to Remind Me’ was unable to attend a private party in Samuel Road in Langdon Hills on Saturday as planned.
The party was planned to celebrate the Silver Wedding of Laindon Couple Mr & Mrs Rob Tilley, Sandie Shaw is their niece. The party was held in the Women’s Institute Hall.
It was not until Friday Evening that Sandie knew she could not attend. A phone call from her agent said she was wanted in Manchester to record a television show.
But her parents and relatives were there. Her parents (Mr and Mrs Patrick Goodrich) are pictured above. Sandie’s mother (second from left) is standing next to her grandfather and her father is pictured at top centre.
The silver wedding couple are on the right”.
