How many of you know that there has been a café in the Laindon community centre for the past eighteen years. I was only aware of it when a notice was put up approximately three years ago. The current café manager Jenny has been in charge for three years and she tells me that all the produce is fresh; she will not have any of the pre-packed stuff. Jenny was the bar manager for three years previously before taking over the café, her assistant Nicky has been there fifteen months.

Although the accommodation is very basic both Jenny and Nicky make up for it, they are both very friendly and helpful. There is a very friendly atmosphere and you get to know a lot of people. On the menu is homemade soups, Sandwiches, Salads, Breakfasts, Jacket Potatoes, Omelettes, good selections of fillings, Chilli and Rice, Curry and Rice, Spaghetti Bolognaise, Sweet and Sour Chicken, yoghurts, cakes etc.

In the past few months they have also been putting on specials. Wednesday tends to be roast, Friday’s Sheppard’s pie or a Strew but you have to pre-order. Just before Christmas they did us proud with a three course Christmas Lunch

Opening times are Monday to Friday 8.30am to 2.30pm , the only down turn is that they are not open on Saturday’s but the great advantage it is cheap, I mean cheap and there is plenty of free parking. You do not have to be a member of the centre to use the café but if you call in for a quick snack and cup of tea you might just find some activities you would like to join.
