Quinton and Walker Families

Hi all,
I’ve recently been tracing my family history and looking to see if anyone has any memories or info on my grandparents and great grandparents.

My Great grandfather was George Walker who according to the 1939 census lived at 148 Worthing Road (can’t quite make out the cottage name) with my grandad Herbert Walker who was then 14.  I believe George moved to Laindon at some point in the 20/30s from Bow and was a welder. Herbert my grandad married Dawn Quinton, although I think she was adopted so would love to know if anyone has any memories of her and any clues to her upbringing. They ended up moving to Basildon to the house I remember as a kid, opposite Ghyllgrove School.

My Dad Colin Walker sadly passed away 3 years ago, so I am left with the joys of trawling through Ancestry for clues currently before stumbling across this site. I would love to hear any stories about him as youngster as well if anyone was friends with him.

  • Hi Philip, Electoral registers used to be available to view on request at local libraries but unfortunately our local Basildon library decided to get rid of its copies so now the nearest place for me is at the Essex Records Office in Chelmsford. It may be worth contacting your local library and ask where copies of the Essex Electoral Register are held nearest to you.

  • Thanks Colin, filled in a couple of gaps. What site is the 1949 electoral register available on? Haven’t been able to see that so far on ancestry
