‘Carlton’, The Avenue and the Standen Family.

We were contacted this week by Simon Callan with a request for information about a bungalow called ‘Carlton’ in Victoria Road. He was interested in a description of the plot, as his family (the Standen family) had lived there in the 30s.

After a bit of research we traced ‘Carlton’ in The Avenue, a little turning off Victoria Road. Described as – four rooms, stucco with asbestos tiles, in fairly good condition and cared for.

Simon was pleased with the information and sent us a few photos of his family from the thirties.  He doesn’t have many memories or stories to share, except that his mother told him her dad added extra rooms to the building as it was used as a holiday home for people from the East End previously before he bought it. The house had a well in the garden in which the cat fell in, after dragging it out they still drank the water.

Thank you for sharing your photos Simon – much appreciated.
