Wealmet, Durban Road, Laindon

The bungalow was built in 1926, by Thomas William Dewhurst, he was married to Elizabeth Ann, they moved to Laindon from Rotherhithe. They had four children: Elizabeth Louise, Ethel Alice, Lilian Maud (she was a distant aunt on my grandfathers side) and Thomas William.

Where the bungalow was, I cannot find an address, but it was very close to the Southend Arterial Road, we used to play near the road!!

The bungalow was compulsory purchased in 1963, but it was never pulled down!

I would love to know if it is still lived in.

Editor: I found Thomas and Elizabeth Dewhurst on the 1949 Electoral Register. They lived in the bungalow ‘Wealmet’ in Durban Road, Laindon. Wealmet is mentioned on the 1962 Electoral Register but not on the 1968 Register. I therefore believe it was demolished between 1962 and 1968.
Durban Road and several other roads that were in that area no longer exist. The area was redeveloped many years ago and Laindon has changed very much.
